The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will deploy 530 registered nurses to accredited hospitals on May 2, 2012 as Customers Assistance, Relations and Empowerment Staff (CARES).
According to Dr. Eduardo P. Banzon, PhilHealth President and CEO, this initiative was designed to provide PhilHealth members essential information about their various health benefits as members at the point of service.
Banzon said these nurses were selected from about 23,000 online applicants. They also underwent orientation and training on PhilHealth policies, guidelines, benefits, membership procedures, accreditation requirements and other basic information salient for members and PhilHealth accredited hospitals.
“We don’t have to train them on the medical aspect [anymore],” said Banzon.
PhilHealth will deploy CARES staff to accredited level three (3) and four (4) hospitals. They can be assigned to level one (1) and two (2) government hospitals on rotation basis depending on staff demands. CARES staff will be scheduled to report from Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays, from 9:00 to 2:00 pm.
Moreover, CARES staff will be stationed at PhilHealth desks in DOH accredited hospitals. Other government hospitals will station CARES staff near the Social Welfare offices. PhilHealth released Circular No. 12, s 2012, last April 20 to formally inform the hospitals covered by the project.
CARES staff shall receive a monthly gross income of P15,256, inclusive of PhilHealth insurance amounting to P1,200 and Group Accident insurance of P150 per year.
Initial engagement of PhilHealth CARES shall be effective May 2 until December 2012.
The project is in line with the government’s thrust on providing a universal health care to Filipinos.
Banzon was guest in the recently concluded Communication and News Exchange Forum (CNEX) held at the Philippine Information Agency. CNEX is aired over PTV-4, every Friday, 10 to 11 am.(PAE/PCCC/PIA-Central)
